Trumpet

The trumpet is a brass instrument. The sound is produced when, by using the lips, a ‘buzz’ is generated in the mouthpiece, which sends vibration through the instrument and exits as sound or (hopefully) a note! Higher and lower notes are produced by manipulating valves or by causing the lips to open farther (lower notes) or close (higher notes).

A beginning trumpet student needs:

  • Trumpet
  • Band Book: Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 for Trumpet
  • A collapsible wire music stand
  • Pencil

French Horn

The french horn is another of the high brass instruments. The sound is produced exactly the same way as with the trumpet, however the valves are in the left hand and the right hand is held inside the bell.

A beginning french horn student needs:

  • French Horn
  • Band Book: Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 for French Horn
  • A collapsible wire music stand
  • Pencil
